North Petherton Remembers
The town of North Petherton in Somerset, like so many others across the country, lost a number of its own during the major conflicts of the twentieth century. This book aims to serve as a unique record to the fifty-five names commemorated on the North Petherton War Memorial, detailing their lives, their service and their final resting places.
In researching and creating this book, it was important to involve the local community as much as possible – and the Year 6 children at North Petherton Community Primary School embarked on a North Petherton Remembers Project in the autumn of 2022.
The pupils received the background research that would later be used for creating this book, and then used their writing skills to create biographies of the 55 men on the town’s war memorial, as well as producing some rather poignant artwork.
These were put on public display along a Remembrance Walk from the school to the church, and were up for the duration of the 2022 Remembrance weekend. The children also planned and led the Remembrance service at St Mary’s Church, at 11am on 11 November 2022.
The book was published on 13 July 2023.
