Otterhampton & Combwich Remembers

The villages of Otterhampton and Combwich in Somerset, like so many others across the country, lost a number of their own during the major conflicts of the twentieth century. This book aims to serve as a unique record to the names commemorated within the two villages, detailing their lives, their service and their final resting places.
In researching and creating this book, it was important to involve the local community as much as possible – and the Year 6 children at Otterhampton Primary School embarked on a Otterhampton & Combwich Remembers Project in the autumn of 2023.
The pupils received the background research that would later be used for creating this book, and then used their writing skills to create biographies of the 14 men on the two village’s war memorials, as well as producing some rather poignant artwork.
These were put on public display along a Remembrance Walk from the school to the church, and were up for the duration of the 2023 Remembrance weekend. The children also planned and led the Remembrance service at St Peter’s Church, Combwich, at 11am on Friday 10 November 2023.
The book was published on 18 July 2024.
